Director, Environment and Sustainability Development

Our client, a company whose mission is to manage, operate and maintain various transport infrastructures, whose activities are divided into engineering, construction and maintenance operations is currently seeking, to continue his grow, for a Director, Environment and Sustainability Development.

Nature of position

Reporting to the Senior Director, Asset Management, the Director, ESD will manage the operations of the ESD Department in line with its mission and vision. You will help senior management take the required action to comply with federal and provincial environmental protection laws, standards and regulations, develop best practices to preserve the environment, and implement a sustainable development and stakeholder management approach that spans all of the Corporation’s departments.You will also act as an environment and sustainable development expert and leader for the Corporation and recommend best practices. In this capacity, you will establish policies, propose and implement improvements to current practices, and support the Corporation in its decision-making with regard to the orientations that it must adopt. As such, you will :

  • Plan, develop, direct and evaluate all activities related to your department. Specifically, you must determine the activities that the department must carry out annually in accordance with our five-year investment plans ;
  • Plan and organize the work of all the department's resources, allocate the necessary human, financial and material resources to carry out the department's activities, and direct the department’s work and activities while ensuring that its resources are flexible ;
  • Strategically monitor the key areas under your responsibility; track new practices, measure their impact and make the necessary adjustments ;
  • Direct contract launch activities related to the department’s activities and ensure that the various services provided by your teams comply with established governance policies ;
  • While planning, developing and implementing ongoing activities and major rehabilitation projects, work with other departments to ensure compliance with practices related to the environment, sustainable development, and stakeholder management ;
  • Inform senior management about the status of various environmental aspects and the impact of operations on the environment ;
  • Prepare various accountability reports that the Corporation must submit to the government and internal bodies through the application of its policies ;
  • Oversee the management of operations related to the Corporation’s retaining walls within the Bonaventure sector ;
  • Manage staff by developing and coaching your team, ensuring these resources have the required flexibility, and defining their priorities. Ensure that your team adheres to JCCBI's corporate values (Team Work, Transparency, Thoroughness, Innovation and Commitment) in a spirit of collaboration and respect ;
  • Establish the required budgets for the activities in your sector. Take part in the process to prepare annual budgets and track the budget and contracts under the department’s responsibility ;
  • Act as a liaison with other government or public agencies. Oversee federal and provincial regulatory monitoring and ensure that the Corporation's actions comply with the regulations in force ;
  • Stay up-to-date with existing and emerging external practices: attend occasional networking events to raise the Corporation’s profile and stay informed about new trends and innovations in your field.

Required qualification

  • Undergraduate degree from a recognized university, with a relevant specialization in environmental science and/or sustainable development; a degree or certificate in sustainable development and/or stakeholder management will be considered an asset ;
  • Be a member of a professional order relevant to the position (asset) ;
  • Have at least 15 years of experience in the areas of the environment and sustainable development and at least seven years as a manager ;
  • Have significant experience in contaminated land management, primarily in hydrogeology (asset) ;
  • Have experience determining environmental requirements for regulatory compliance ;
  • Have served as a senior project manager for large-scale projects in the public and private sectors ;
  • Have experience with contract management (needs identification, contract drafting, procurement, tracking of contract deliverables, quality, deadlines and costs) ;
  • Have in-depth knowledge of the laws, regulations, standards, trends, orientations, and recent developments in your field ;
  • Have good writing skills and a solid ability to communicate clearly and effectively ;
  • Show inspiring leadership, remarkable interpersonal skills, and an ability to motivate employees using a collaborative and continuous improvement approach ;
  • Have change management skills and a client-focused approach ;
  • Analysis and synthesis skills ;
  • Be recognized for your expertise, thoroughness and team spirit ;
  • Show scientific curiosity and independence ;
  • Integrity: behave with sincerity, decency and honesty ;
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Access, and MS Project ;
  • Have good mastery of oral and written French and English.
