Electrical Design Engineer

Our client, a well-established company specialized in the development and manufacturing of a diversified range of electrical equipment, is currently looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to pursue its growth.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for preparing equipment electrical designs, bills of materials, order specifications and production drawings for other departments such as procurement, quality and production. In addition, you will provide support to customers, sales and the marketing team. As such, you will :

  • Perform electrical design according to internal design rules and customer and industry standards using various design software ;
  • Produce drawings, design review documents for the customer and bills of materials for material ordering ;
  • Produce drawings, customer design review documents and bills of materials for material order ;
  • Participate in design review meeting with client/consultant ;
  • Participate in failure investigation, corrective and preventive actions ;
  • Provide technical support to other departments as needed ;
  • Analyze and respond to customer requests, gather relevant information and propose appropriate corrective actions for customer service to ensure timely solutions ;
  • Gather knowledge on technological solutions for new products to reduce costs and industrial processes (manufacturing and testing) ;
  • Guide the production team on new design techniques and shop floor issues ;
  • Understand and implement international design standards, company design rules and design tools ;
  • Continually develop a working knowledge of processes, tools and methodologies for all phases of the manufacturing process ;
  • Evaluate test results and make necessary modifications to future designs in coordination with product line R&D ;
  • Work on projects to reduce costs, increase quality and improve lead times ;
  • Participate in the continuous improvement process ;
  • Carry out every other task compatible with your functions.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other relevant education ;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in electrical design ;
  • Must be a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) ;
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing and testing processes of transformers ;
  • Working knowledge of various analytical tools for transformer design ;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics D365 (or other ERP systems) ;
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite software ;
  • Familiarity with IEEE, CSA, IEC standards ;
  • Knowledge of power transformer technologies and components ;
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in both official languages French and English ;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-site environment ;
  • General knowledge of customers and the electrical industry market ;
  • Interpersonal skills with colleagues ;
  • Ability to understand business issues.
