Corporate Health, Safety, and Environment Advisor

Our client, a manufacturing company positioning itself as a leader in the production of technological materials and specialized chemicals on a global scale, is currently looking for a coordinator for its factory located in the Montreal region. trice) in health, safety and environment.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Corporate Director of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), your main role will be to participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the overall management system in close collaboration with operational sites spread across North America, Europe and Asia. The objective is to ensure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. As such, your responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in the establishment of annual HSE objectives and targets, as well as the development of the annual action plan and budget planning;
  • Provide active support to operational sites with respect to the implementation of risk management programs and management of change systems, including the identification, assessment, communication and effective control of risks;
  • Participate in various risk analyzes carried out for operational processes and on projects (PRA, HAZOP, JSA, etc.);
  • Ensure the selection, adaptation and implementation of effective and innovative software and management tools;
  • Identify and monitor changes in HSE regulations that could impact the company's activities, and participate in the development and implementation of appropriate mitigation strategies;
  • Collect and analyze data and communicate it regularly through reports;
  • Carry out audits of the overall HSE management system and compliance checks;
  • Provide active support regarding the implementation of the compliance self-assessment program by operational sites;
  • Support operational sites in the investigation of incidents, identification and implementation of preventive and corrective measures with emphasis on the high potential for incident prevention;
  • Act as an ambitious role model in personal attitude, commitment to excellence and leadership in relation to HSE;
  • Work closely with operational teams to analyze and develop training needs within the company;
  • Provide proactive advice and coaching to site operational teams on HSE topics and challenges, all aimed at driving improvements in HSE management and a strengthening of HSE culture.

Required qualification

  • University training in science, engineering, environmental management or any other relevant discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience on a work site providing direct HSE technical support. ;
  • Practical experience with various risk analysis methods (PRA / HAZID, HAZOP, What-If, JSA, and others);
  • Be familiar with international standards (ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001) and the main industrial practices in the field of HSE;
  • Good knowledge of international HSE regulations and effective compliance validation and permitting strategies (an asset);
  • Experience working with a company with safety programs focused on worker behavior;
  • Excellent analytical and persuasive skills;
  • Be a good team player and be able to work collaboratively as part of a global HSE management team;
  • French and English bilingualism (spoken and written);
  • Be available to make occasional trips to different company sites (mainly in the USA and Germany).
