Hardware engineer (electronic equipment)

Our client, a company specializing in the development and manufacturing of optical solutions (AMLCD screens, backlights, EMI filtering, etc.), working in the fields of military and defense markets, aerospace, high medical range and industrial sector, is currently looking for an electrical engineer.

Nature of position

Under the Director of Engineering, the senior electrical engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team for the development and production of custom displays and related products. You will perform hands-on development of new designs during the development phases along with other related activities such as prototype follow-ups, verification tests, troubleshooting, test setups, qualification testing, documentations, etc… The electrical engineer will also participate to elaborate design processes, test strategies and new technologies in-line with the Business Unit product roadmap. You will also provide hardware support for product introduction to manufacturing and support to on-going production.

  • Design and document the electronic portion of display products;
  • Define hardware architectures, design and develop electronic circuit designs and printed circuit layouts, develop appropriate verification and validation approaches and perform verification activities;
  • Generate or modify VHDL code for custom FPGA functionality;
  • Generate or modify C code for circuits based on embedded microcontrollers;
  • Provide technical solutions for the selection of electronic components for new and existing products;
  • Design and create all documentation related to the electronic test station;
  • Work with suppliers by providing technical advice for the manufacturing of circuit assemblies;
  • Identify and resolve hardware problems related to component obsolescence and the manufacturability of display product components;
  • Build prototype parts, cables and test fixtures;
  • Create technical documentation and user manuals;
  • Assign part numbers for drawings, documents and generate the parts list (BOM);
  • Prepare and process technical change notices;
  • Support and resolve technical problems related to customer returns (RMA);
  • Carry out analyses, validation/verification tests and monitoring of prototypes;
  • Work in collaboration with a team of multidisciplinary professionals;
  • Provide technical assistance to marketing (technical solution, exchanges with external customers, demonstration units, etc.);
  • Provide support for new product introduction (NPI) and ongoing production;
  • Participate in R&D development projects;
  • Perform any other tasks compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering;
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in analog/digital circuit design, power supply, microcontrollers and burn-in tools;
  • Experience in LCD screen design (character/graphics, monochrome/color) will be considered an asset;
  • Experience in hardware architecture of electronic systems and integrated “Man-Machine Interface” applications;
  • Experience in analyzing security and reliability requirements;
  • Ability to use basic electronic test equipment such as power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc. ;
  • Bilingualism (French and English): spoken and written;
  • Demonstrate good ability to work in a team;
  • Experience in FPGA programming (VHDL) and mastery of the C and C++ programming language (an asset);
  • Familiar with the development of operating systems and embedded software (an asset);
  • Knowledge of the avionics certification process (DO-254 HW development and DO-178 SW development) (an asset);
  • Experience with military and aeronautical standards such as RTCA/DO-160, MIL-TSD-810 and MIL-STD-461 (an asset).
  • Experience with PADS software ( an asset);
