Electrical engineering engineer, Engineering department

Our client, a company whose mission is to manage, operate, and maintain various transportation infrastructures, with activities spanning engineering, construction, and maintenance operations, is currently seeking an electrical engineering engineer, Engineering department, to continue improving the quality and efficiency of its services.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Engineering Director, you will oversee the implementation of the maintenance program through the execution of electrical and electrotechnical projects on the company's infrastructures. Additionally, you will develop and supervise contracts with engineering firms to conduct studies and design projects in electrical and electrotechnical engineering. You will provide technical support related to the fields of electricity and electrotechnics to your colleagues in the Engineering department, project teams, and executives. In this role, you will:

  • Prepare or participate in the development of terms of reference for the awarding of contracts for professional services to engineering consulting firms for the execution of studies and design (from preliminary design to detailed drawings and specifications) for maintenance or improvement projects on infrastructures, as well as for technical assistance during the work;
  • Ensure compliance with the engineering contracts with the contract requirements (quality of deliverables, budgets, and schedules);
  • Coordinate the professional services of consultants assigned for the design of major maintenance projects, various studies, and technical assistance;
  • Review the studies, drawings, and specifications prepared by the consultants and provide recommendations to the Project Director, validate the measures to be taken, and follow up on their implementation;
  • Review and comment on studies, as well as construction drawings and specifications;
  • Inform and communicate effectively with consultants, directors, project teams, and construction teams;
  • Prepare the necessary authorizations for contract modifications;
  • Monitor progress reports for consultant payments, ensure control of completion schedules and financial forecasts;
  • Assist management in project planning, process development, and budget preparation;
  • Provide assistance to the Engineering Director, including providing relevant information for various reports and ensuring contract follow-up;
  • Identify issues and make recommendations for their resolution;
  • Represent the company in meetings with partners;
  • Participate in the development of standardized specifications and terms of reference;
  • Contribute to the improvement of company operating processes;
  • Perform any other related tasks or responsibilities associated with this position.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering;
  • Registered member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in electrical or electrotechnical project execution;
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office suite: Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in French and verbal communication skills in English (It is preferable to have proficiency in English for this position as it enables effective communication with clients and partners, both at the national and international levels);
  • Skills in contract monitoring and administration, including work evaluation, holding meetings, and negotiating payments;
  • Knowledge of practices and standards in structural and civil engineering: bridge construction, tunnels, viaducts, and/or any other civil engineering structure (an asset);
  • Knowledge of practices and standards in road and urban road layout as well as building mechanics (an asset);
  • Additional training in project management (an asset);
  • Being able to concurrently manage multiple projects and initiatives;
  • Being resourceful, open-minded, curious, and eager to research and learn.
