Mechanical engineer (forensic investigation)

Our client, a company specializing in disaster investigation in the field of fire, electricity, mechanics, materials, chemistry and civil engineering, counting on a team of seasoned professionals who are called upon to determine, using a scientific approach, the origin and cause of material damage or bodily injury, is currently looking for a mechanical engineer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Operations, your main mandate will be to carry out technical investigations on the origin and cause of events occurring on the mechanics of a building, a vehicle damaged by fire, water or a mechanical cause and on the cause of the failure of a vehicle. You will also perform surveys and observations leading to the cause of the event, whether it is a motor vehicle or heavy machinery or agricultural equipment. As such you will see:

  • Carry out technical investigations on the origin of a mechanical cause as well as for events occurring on the mechanics of a building, a component of common systems, heating or even industrial equipment;
  • Take readings and observations leading to the cause of the event, whether it is a building, a vehicle or heavy machinery or agricultural equipment;
  • Disseminate the process that led to its conclusions, in verbal and written form;
  • Travel to the greater Montreal area and occasionally elsewhere in Quebec (and more rarely outside Quebec) to determine the origin and cause of events;
  • Act as an expert witness before the courts when required;
  • Perform any other tasks compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering;
  • Member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (OIQ);
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in the field of insurance, legal or post-disaster (an asset);
  • Possess skills/knowledge in building mechanics (HVAC, plumbing, automatic sprinklers, etc.);
  • Express yourself easily in French, both orally and in writing;
  • Have access to a vehicle allowing travel throughout Quebec;
  • Have a good knowledge of oral and written English;
  • Possess a good spirit of analysis, synthesis and science;
  • Have excellent communication and popularization skills (oral and written);
  • Be oriented towards customer satisfaction.
