Manager, Operations and Maintenance

Our client, a company with a mission to manage, operate, and maintain various transportation infrastructures, whose activities are distributed across engineering, construction, and maintenance operations, is currently seeking a Director of Operations and Maintenance to continue improving the quality and efficiency of its services.

Nature of position

Reporting to the Director, Operations and Maintenance, and while using an inclusive and participatory approach with a multidisciplinary blue-collar team, you will plan, organize, direct and monitor all maintenance activities in the territory managed by the Corporation while ensuring that work is carried out according to prevailing standards and regulations.

  • Plan, organize and direct the work of all human resources under your responsibility;
  • Manage the materials and equipment of the Operations and Maintenance department;
  • Coordinate and monitor the subcontractors who support your team;
  • Recommend and implement solutions to any problems arising from maintenance work;
  • Collaborate with the OHS advisor to develop an OHS culture within the department;
  • Help implement and follow up on the recommendations of the local OHS committee and ensure that the staff under your responsibility are properly trained;
  • Work with internal and external partners and constructively promote the corporate culture;
  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance processes;
  • Apply procedures for the monitoring and control of maintenance activities to measure progress based on the maintenance program for structures;
  • Meticulously track the tasks assigned to the team, which includes monitoring service requests, recommendations, subcontractor performance evaluations, quality of work, and administrative and technical information updates;
  • Develop management indicators to adequately judge the quality of completed work and the effectiveness of the team that you are supervising;
  • Prepare various specifications in collaboration with your team for the execution of specific work or the supply of goods and services;
  • Prepare cost records, collect relevant data to inform decision-making about the purchase of products and services, and follow up on these activities;
  • Help prepare and manage the department’s budget and fixed assets;
  • Attend site meetings and coordination meetings for work planning;
  • Provide the necessary support for staff members under your responsibility to ensure they have sufficient guidance;
  • Ensure that your team members comply with the Corporation's policies, guidelines, standards and regulations and apply the relevant working methods;
  • Optimize the resources under your responsibility when planning your department’s staffing needs;
  • At the request of your immediate superior, carry out all other tasks related to this area;

Required qualification

  • DCS in civil engineering or equivalent field;
  • Fifteen years of experience in construction, civil engineering and infrastructure maintenance, including five years of experience managing a team of unionized employees;
  • Have thorough knowledge of the laws, standards and regulations governing highways and the operation of road and structure networks;
  • Be familiar with the Act respecting owners, operators and drivers of heavy vehicles;
  • Have thorough knowledge of OHS obligations;
  • Have ASP certification to work at a construction site;
  • Have a class 5 driver's licence;
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite: Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in both official languages.
