Product Development Engineer

Product Development Engineer

Our client, a company specializing in the development and distribution of a wide range of specialized plumbing products for a North American clientele, is currently seeking a Product Development Engineer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Engineering Director, your main responsibility will be to participate in the development and improvement of products in order to meet market demands and new industry standards. You will also work closely with partners, suppliers, and subcontractors to innovate and enhance existing products. As such, you will be expected to:

  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors in the development of new products to expand the product range and meet market needs;
  • Improve existing products, in collaboration with suppliers and subcontractors, to optimize performance, reliability, and manufacturing costs;
  • Contribute to the optimization of manufacturing and production processes in collaboration with suppliers and subcontractors;
  • Provide technical support for the preparation of instruction sheets and technical data sheets for products;
  • Help optimize the quality control system and ensure its application;
  • Collaborate with the purchasing department in the search for and evaluation of new suppliers;
  • Represent the company at major industry trade shows and events;
  • Travel to meet and audit suppliers and technological partners;
  • Perform any other tasks consistent with your role.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering training;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience;
  • Technical expertise in manufacturing and basic knowledge of industrial processes (e.g., plastic extrusion, molding, machining of parts, etc.);
  • Ability to innovate in product design and concept development;
  • Expertise in plumbing, building mechanics, and/or process mechanics will be considered a major asset;
  • Bilingualism (French and English, spoken and written) is required, as you will work with English-speaking and non-French-speaking suppliers;
  • Proficiency with parametric 3D design software;
  • Ability to analyze technical drawings and engineering documents;
  • Ability to participate in trade shows and to travel for supplier audits abroad.
