Product Support Engineer – Energy
Our client, a company specializing in the design and manufacturing of a wide range of products for North American electric power generation and distribution companies, is currently seeking a Product Support Engineer.
Nature of position
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, you will coordinate the technical aspects of calls for tenders, develop constraint diagrams for new product opportunities, provide technical support to customers, the sales and marketing team, and the customer service team, as well as ensure the creation of customer bills of materials and quotations based on designs approved by R&E, and support the manufacturing and quality teams. In this capacity, you will:
- Coordinate the technical aspects of calls for tenders: review specifications, select and ensure product compliance, establish product costs and lead times, obtain technical approvals from the R&E team, etc.
- Prepare constraint maps for projects in collaboration with sales and marketing ;
- Monitor the progress of new product development programs and actively participate in interim design reviews. Suggest changes as needed to meet commercial specification objectives;
- Provide technical support to customers, the sales network, and customer service
- Provide on-site support and training to customers for communication and energy products, including trade show support;
- Evaluate competing products, perform benchmarks on technical and application specifications, and make recommendations;
- Coordinate the procurement and assembly of demonstration equipment;
- Collaborate on engineering evaluations and designs with the research and engineering (R&E) team in Montréal;
- Create customer or quotation drawings from R&E-approved designs;
- Develop conceptual models and proposals based on sales and marketing requests;
- Review and interpret customer specifications and industry standards related to product design and validation (e.g., ASTM, CSA, IEEE, etc.);
- Support shop document management (Epicor entries, work orders, bills of materials, etc.);
- Participate in product quality reviews and perform technical analyses as needed;
- Support manufacturing teams through process reviews, continuous improvement, and tooling design;
- Attend technical meetings, conferences, and specialized courses related to your area of responsibility;
- Represent the company professionally in all interactions with customers and others;
- Perform any other duties consistent with your role.
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience;
- Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or in the process of becoming one (CPI);
- Bilingual in French and English (fluency in English is essential for this position as it facilitates communication with a diverse range of business partners, both domestic and international);
- Experience in the electric utility market (an asset);
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and documentation such as work orders and bills of materials;
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
