OHS Manager

OHS Manager

Our client, a major processing company operating in the pulp and paper industry, is currently looking for an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) manager for its plant located in the Québec region.

Nature of position

Reporting to the Human Resources Director, you will play a key role in prevention, analysis, and operational support to ensure a safe work environment for all personnel. Additionally, you will support the production, maintenance, and supervisory teams in integrating best OHS practices into their daily operations while ensuring regulatory compliance across all facilities. In this role, you will:

  • Actively participate in identifying, analyzing, and controlling risks related to production activities (confined spaces, heavy machinery, chemicals, handling, etc.);
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, document discrepancies, and support teams in implementing corrective actions;
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, analyze causes, and recommend sustainable preventive measures;
  • Update and apply OHS programs: lockout/tagout, confined spaces, working at heights, etc.;
  • Support managers and employees in integrating safe practices and actively participate in OHS committees;
  • Develop and deliver training tailored to the industrial environment (work procedures, new safe methods, fire prevention, etc.);
  • Ensure regulatory monitoring and recommend necessary adjustments to maintain plant compliance;
  • Collaborate with operational teams on special projects or equipment changes to assess risks and suggest preventive measures;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the OHS culture by raising awareness, engaging, and supporting employees daily;
  • Perform any other tasks related to your role.

Required qualification

  • University degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or other relevant fields;
  • Relevant experience in a manufacturing, industrial, mining, or similar environment;
  • Knowledge of CNESST standards and requirements;
  • Ability to quickly analyze complex situations, explain risks in simple terms, and propose practical solutions;
  • Positive leadership, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage teams toward safe practices;
  • Autonomy, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail in documentation.
