Our client is an international engineering firm specializing in fire engineering, fire protection system design, building and fire code studies (Quebec Construction Code, National Building Code, Fire Prevention Code, and related standards), and forensic engineering. Their expertise spans all phases of a project, from initial design to post-incident investigations. To support their growth in Quebec, our client is currently seeking a Fire Code and/or Fire Protection Engineer/Consultant.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the office Director, you will be part of a team that collaborates with designers, engineers, manufacturers, developers, and public agencies to address the clients most complex challenges. Your responsibilities may include code analysis (building and fire prevention codes), fire modeling, emergency planning, materials assessment, risk evaluation, and forensic investigations. You will work with a team of highly qualified professionals to provide technical analyses focused on solutions tailored to client needs. As such, you will:

  • Provide guidance on compliance with building and fire codes, including reviewing plans and proposing alternative solutions;
  • Manage projects from design to execution, including resource, budget, profitability, and overall project coordination;
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients and represent the company;
  • Conduct site visits and participate in meetings with clients and authorities having jurisdiction;
  • Oversee and ensure the quality and timely delivery of project deliverables;
  • Mentor and coach junior team members;
  • Perform third-party reviews on projects for various clients;
  • Identify and actively pursue business development opportunities while contributing to marketing efforts;
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the role.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in a relevant discipline or in architecture;
  • In-depth knowledge of the Quebec Construction Code (Parts 3, 9, and 10), National Building Code (NBC), and/or Fire Prevention Code (FPC) and associated standards (CAN/ULC and NFPA);
  • Knowledge of risk and fire engineering or a related field, with a proven track record of successful project delivery (an asset);
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience;
  • Strong proficiency in at least some of the core areas, with a willingness to learn and adapt;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Bilingualism in French and English (spoken and written) is required in order to collaborate with English-speaking colleagues and international clients;
  • Ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of or interest in business development and client relationship management.
