Mechanical Systems Technician

Our client, a well-established leader in the field of naval engineering based in the Québec City region, is currently seeking a Mechanical Systems Technician.

Nature of position

Reporting to the Engineering Director, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for designing mechanical systems in accordance with client specifications and requirements. The role includes the following responsibilities:

  • Participate in the design and integration of marine mechanical systems: propulsion, hydraulics, HVAC, water systems, fuel, lubrication, and auxiliary systems;
  • Produce installation, assembly, and fabrication drawings;
  • Select appropriate mechanical components (pumps, valves, heat exchangers, piping, supports) based on project needs;
  • Collaborate with the structural team and ensure proper spatial coordination within the vessel;
  • Apply principles of fluid mechanics, including pressure, flow, and head loss;
  • Work in compliance with safety, material, and manufacturing standards;
  • Perform any other tasks related to the responsibilities of the position.

Required qualification

  • Diploma in building mechanics, mechanical engineering technology, industrial mechanics, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD;
  • Interest in or experience with Rhino and Inventor;
  • Proficiency in French and English, both spoken and written (functional English is required to collaborate with international clients and suppliers);
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings (process diagrams, arrangement drawings, and piping isometric drawings);
  • Willingness to learn maritime classification rules (Bureau Veritas, Transport Canada, Lloyd's);
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently;
  • Team-oriented mindset and collaborative attitude.
