Senior Electrical Engineer

Our client, a company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of installations and equipment for the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Director of Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation, you will be responsible for performing a variety of design engineering tasks, including problem investigation, concept analysis, stress analysis, report writing, drafting, and other tasks related to instrumentation/electrical system design. Constantly seeking innovative ideas, you will work closely with designers to increase productivity, reduce or minimize development and manufacturing costs for each product, and actively participate in the standardization of processes and products. Always on the lookout for new suppliers, you will select components and evaluate the technical aspects of the various products offered by suppliers. In this role, you will:

  • Prepare concepts and specifications;
  • Prepare specifications and scope of work documents for subcontractors;
  • Research original and alternative approaches to design or engineering problems;
  • Prepare technical drawings in electronic format;
  • Verify, review, and seal final calculations and drawings. Ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective, validate data and all other relevant information;
  • Perform manual and/or computerized analyses of concepts, engineering problems, and design deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions when applicable;
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and schedules;
  • Identify and research new suppliers;
  • Make recommendations regarding component selection, research alternative sources, and solicit bids from suppliers;
  • Review suppliers' bids and drawings;
  • Write reports and correspondence related to your duties;
  • Conduct conceptual studies and R&D projects to advance the company's technical knowledge;
  • Prepare weekly progress reports, identifying obstacles encountered and the methods used to resolve issues;
  • Provide support, when required, for installations and troubleshooting on job sites;
  • Respect budgets and deadlines;
  • Occasionally participate in on-site installations;
  • Perform any other tasks compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Experience in instrumentation and data acquisition (temperature, pressure, speed, vibration, etc.) and control systems (PLC);
  • Experience in Medium Voltage electrical systems (small distribution substations, variable frequency drives, motors, transformers, electrical protection, SEL relays, etc.) an asset;
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar design software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of ETAP, an asset;
  • Ability to travel (once or twice per year) to participate in on-site installations;
  • Advanced spoken and written English due to a high volume of international clients.
