Project Manager (Civil Engineering Works)
Our client, a leader in the construction industry specializing in civil engineering works, structures, infrastructure, and municipal services, and recognized for its expertise and environmental commitment, is currently seeking a Project Manager.
Nature of position
responsible for overseeing the administrative aspects of construction projects. You will act as a key liaison between the company and the client, provide the material resources required for contract execution, and assist superintendents and foremen in coordinating project progress.In this capacity, your responsibilities will include:
- Supervising and mentoring Assistant Project Managers;
- Reviewing and annotating contracts to ensure they reflect submitted bids;
- Reviewing relevant documents used to establish pricing and estimates in order to fully understand the project scope, technical and financial issues, and potential challenges;
- Optimizing or refining the design before and during the project;
- Procuring materials (including sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing);
- Organizing project handover meetings to present the project to the team to enable proper planning and coordination, including potential issues;
- Preparing and monitoring change orders on a daily basis;
- Drafting work methods and procedures;
- Coordinating and following up on any site issues or changes (technical, health and safety, contract compliance, scope of work, etc.) with the appropriate stakeholders;
- Preparing specific work plans for projects and updating prevention programs;
- Conducting post-mortem analyses to evaluate completed projects;
- Establishing, jointly with the superintendent, the project schedule and revising it as necessary throughout the project in coordination with the client and management;
- Monitoring project progress according to the schedule with the client and site production team;
- Preparing, jointly with the superintendent, the list of materials, equipment, and labor required for project execution;
- Coordinating material deliveries and fabrication with superintendents and ensuring that site superintendents and foremen receive materials at the appropriate time;
- Communicating regularly with superintendents regarding progress, issues, and potential solutions;
- Ensuring that the superintendent communicates up-to-date information on site;
- Validating daily reports and cost code entries (equipment and labor) related to projects;
- Approving project-related invoices;
- Monitoring project costs (monthly profitability analyses);
- Preparing monthly progress claims for billing ongoing projects;
- Managing project disputes and claims;
- Organizing and attending site meetings with clients;
- Documenting, sorting, and organizing daily site activities and correspondence with clients and professionals;
- Performing any other duties compatible with the position.
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant education;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in civil engineering project management;
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (an asset);
- ASP Construction card;
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Excel, etc.);
- Excellent understanding of plans, specifications, standards, and contractual documents;
- Experience in budget management and in maintaining relationships with clients and partners;
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence – travel required;
- Ability to communicate effectively with site teams and stakeholders;
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with a willingness to learn.
