To rank the occupations most damaging to health in the United States, the author used data from the Occupational Information Network / O'NET, a United States Department of Labor database filled with detailed information on occupations. In order to analyze the impacts of different professions on health, the author evaluated 974 professions, according to the 6 factors likely to be harmful to health: exposure to contaminants, exposure to infections and diseases, exposure to dangerous conditions. , radiation exposure, risk of burns / cuts / bites / stings as well as time spent sitting (since studies have shown that being inactive reduces lifespan).

The results are distributed on a scale of 0 to 100, high results represent an increased risk to health.
