Water Sanitation Engineer

Our client, a booming city located in the administrative region of Montérégie, offering both the tranquility of the suburbs and the advantages of the big city, is currently looking for a water sanitation Engineer.

Nature of position

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Engineering Department, your main mission will be to coordinate and manage administratively and technically several projects, as well as to prepare plans and specifications in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. You will also be responsible for acting as the municipal technical representative to the MAMH for potable water assessment and the Inter-municipal Potable Water Board (RIEP), while ensuring the proper functioning of pumping stations, purification plants, and other sanitation equipment. You will need to analyze existing networks for collection, transport, and evacuation of wastewater and runoff, and participate in the maintenance processes of stormwater management structures and other projects with environmental issues. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the work complies with standards, regulations, budgets, and deadlines. In this role, you will:

  • Create and update the city's wastewater and rainwater master plan;
  • Make recommendations regarding existing structures and participate in the upgrading of structures for different infrastructures ;
  • Carry out rain modeling, aqueduct swings and modeling ;
  • Design green infrastructure, including optimal management practices (BMPs) and stormwater management works and wastewater regulation works ;
  • Ensure the preparation of technical studies, reports, plans, quotes and estimates relating to water sanitation equipment ;
  • Verify and approve estimates, designs, and plans and specifications prepared by external firms and make recommendations;
  • Represent the Engineering Department to the RIEP;
  • Regularly audit sanitation facilities and collaborate on managing the state of urban infrastructure for their rehabilitation;
  • Assist in coordinating requests for authorization certificates required from ministries and relevant stakeholders;
  • Monitor sanitation facilities on the SOMAE government site;
  • Requisition both material and human resources inherent to its functions;
  • Collaborate on monitoring overflows and overflow recorders, as well as flow meters and data processing;
  • Ensure compliance with environmental requirements for wastewater overflow and assist in research to reduce parasitic water;
  • Organize and facilitate meetings of the Régie's technical committee;
  • Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders within its field of expertise.
  • Perform any other tasks compatible with your duties.

Required qualification

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or water engineering from a recognized university in Quebec;
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in design and in the field of municipal engineering;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec;
  • Have experience in managing projects in progress;
  • Hold a specialization in wastewater sanitation (an asset);
  • Hold a General Health and Safety certificate on construction sites (ASP construction);
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Familiar with MS Project and AutoCad software;
  • Knowledgeable in software for civil engineering calculations;
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license;
  • Possess skills in planning and coordinating available resources.
