Engineering manager

Our client, a major manufacturing company firmly established in Quebec for over 70 years and specializing in the production of stamped and pressed metal parts, is currently seeking a Engineering manager.

Nature of position

Reporting directly to the President, your mission will be to manage the company’s technical (design) and estimation teams in order to support production, the tooling workshop, procurement, and sales. To accomplish this, you will leverage your technical and communication skills to mobilize your team toward achieving individual and organizational goals, while demonstrating responsibility, reliability, and a continuous desire to learn and apply industry knowledge. In this role, you will:

  • Supervise the estimation team responsible for handling all quote requests, identifying risks, options, and solutions, and submitting bids quickly and efficiently;
  • Provide manufacturing engineering support for awarded bids during the introduction of new products into production: create BOMs, manufacturing routings, technical drawings, programs, quality requirements, as well as the necessary tools, documents, and training;
  • Support production with manufacturing engineering for process improvements and the assessment and implementation of strategic equipment;
  • Oversee quality assurance activities ;
  • Determine project requirements, develop and track team schedules;
  • Collaborate with team members, sales, management (and clients) to solve problems and ensure project delivery on time and to standard;
  • Identify, analyze, assess, propose, and implement changes to equipment and processes to improve manufacturing operations;
  • Supervise R&D related to both processes and product development;
  • Stay current with industry trends and developments (metal stamping and fabrication) and identify opportunities tied to new technologies;
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the role.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant training;
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent knowledge of metal fabrication or stamping;
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or another 3D modeling software;
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills;
  • Solid technical skills in design for manufacturing (DFM), diagnostics, and problem-solving;
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required due to the high volume of English-speaking clients;
  • Excellent communication, motivation, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities;
  • Experience in quality assurance and/or die design will be considered an asset.
