Senior Cost Consultant

Our client, a multidisciplinary multinational professional services firm in engineering with a presence in 35 countries, provides design, planning, and project management services to a diverse clientele. As an organization dedicated to sustainable development, it brings together a global collective of designers, advisors, and experts. Our client is currently seeking a Senior Cost Consultant.

Nature of position

In collaboration with the diverse Cost and Risk Advisory team in the Americas region, your primary mandate will be to provide guidance on constructability, costs, risks, scheduling, procurement, and financing of infrastructure projects in the following sectors: transportation, energy, water, telecommunications, science and technology, and mixed-use development. The projects are largely focused on sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and environmental, social, and governance principles. In this capacity, you will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with clients, project teams, and stakeholders to define project scope and impacts;
  • Conducting analyses related to cost estimating, scheduling, risk modeling, current methods, and constructability of proposed projects;
  • Identifying opportunities and gaps in construction projects, assessing construction options, and proposing relevant solutions;
  • Performing lifecycle cost analyses and cost-benefit analyses of various assets;
  • Building connections with the construction industry to gain better insight into state-of-the-art methods applicable to infrastructure projects, including railways, bridges, tunnels, highways, and buildings;
  • Contributing to the management, mentoring, and coaching of a growing team;
  • Working independently and reviewing tasks and analytical outputs from other team members;
  • Acting as a market consultant and maintaining productive client relationships;
  • Serving as a project manager on various assignments;
  • Conducting analyses using various construction management software such as HCSS, Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Primavera, or Sage;
  • Developing CAPEX, OPEX, LCCA, and financial models and delivering complex analytical presentations;
  • Working with engineering and consulting teams to analyze labor, material, and other resource costs across a variety of projects;
  • Reading, interpreting, and analyzing plans (digitally and manually) and preparing quantity take-offs;
  • Preparing detailed and high-level construction cost estimates;
  • Collaborating with clients through meetings, presentations, or workshops;
  • Performing all other duties consistent with the role.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, construction management, or a related field within the built environment;
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in economics, business administration, or finance;
  • At least eight (8) years of experience in the architecture, engineering, or construction industry;
  • Bilingual proficiency (French and English, both spoken and written) is required as you will work closely with teams in Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York;
  • Proven experience in the development, procurement, construction, operations, and/or delivery of infrastructure projects;
  • Experience in risk management for large-scale projects;
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for teamwork;
  • Solid expertise in a technical or advisory domain, gained through professional experience (design, construction, development, public/private sector, technical consulting, investment, management, etc.);
  • Membership in a recognized professional association (e.g., CIQS, OIQ, or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACEi)) will be considered an asset.
