Director of Mechanical Engineering
Our client, a company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of facilities and equipment for the aerospace industry, is currently seeking a Director of Mechanical Engineering.
Nature of position
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing all stages of the design process for customer products and research and development projects by leading a team of engineers, engineering technologists, and designers. You will also be responsible for technology monitoring to identify the technical objectives that will support the company's growth and product development. In addition, you will ensure a thorough understanding of emerging technologies and integrate them into the development of new products, helping the company expand into new markets. Finally, you will be responsible for standardizing processes and products.
- Develop and plan the mechanical engineering department's budget and establish departmental priorities;
- Support and lead the department's employees;
- Develop and implement policies, standards, and guidelines for the execution of engineering work within your area of expertise;
- Participate directly, when required, in the design and development of products;
- Plan and define human resource requirements;
- Contribute to employee development by providing the necessary support and training;
- Evaluate the performance of team members;
- Manage continuous improvement projects;
- Define the technological direction of the department;
- Review and approve drawings produced by your team, ensuring compliance with quality, functionality, and standardization requirements;
- Participate in management meetings and Quality Committee meetings;
- Continuously improve development practices, tools, and processes to enhance the team's autonomy and efficiency and ensure objectives are achieved;
- Foster change and drive innovation;
- Assess the technical aspects of commercial proposals when required;
- Participate in the preparation of research and development project reports;
- Participer au développement stratégique de l'entreprise ainsi qu'à l'établissement et au maintien des objectifs et des politiques d'opération ;
- Apply AS9100D/ISO 9001 quality standards and follow up on NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) and CAPAs (Corrective and Preventive Actions) related to your department;
- Develop and monitor a technology watch process involving suppliers and competitors;
- Support the Sales and Marketing department as needed;
- Perform any other duties compatible with the position.
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design;
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a manager, supervisor, or director of a technical department;
- Advanced spoken and written English, due to the high volume of international clients.
