Director of Electrical Engineering (Aerospace Equipment)
Our client, a company specializing in the design, manufacturing, and commissioning of installations and equipment for the aerospace industry, is currently seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering.
Nature of position
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling your department while fostering the development of both personal and technical skills, as well as team collaboration. You will also evaluate and coordinate projects related to new technologies and develop and plan your department's budget. You will also be responsible for technology monitoring in order to establish your group's operational objectives, supporting the development of the company and its products. Finally, you will ensure a thorough understanding of emerging technologies and incorporate them into the development of the company's new products in order to guide the organization toward new markets. In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding business needs and ensuring that technology can support product viability;
- Collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure optimal workforce planning across projects and initiatives;
- Mastering lean development principles and ensuring that processes and tools are properly aligned with them;
- Continuously improving development practices, tools, and processes to increase team autonomy and efficiency and ensure that objectives are achieved;
- Fostering change and initiating innovation;
- Organizing the review, monitoring, and reporting of Research and Development projects;
- Participating in the company's strategic development as well as in establishing and maintaining operational objectives and policies;
- Participating in Quality Committee meetings;
- Ensuring the successful completion of each stage of the design process;
- Evaluating the technical aspects of commercial proposals when required;
- Applying AS9100D standards and ensuring appropriate follow-up (NCR/CA);
- Developing and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs);
- Managing continuous improvement projects;
- Organizing and leading product design reviews;
- Approving drawings produced by the team and ensuring compliance with quality, functionality, and standardization requirements;
- Developing and maintaining a technology-monitoring process involving suppliers and competitors;
- Developing and implementing policies, standards, and guidelines for the execution of engineering work within the department;
- Participating directly in product design and development when required;
- Performing any other duties consistent with the position.
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering;
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience;
- Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a manager, supervisor, or director of a technical department;
- Practical knowledge of the design and integration of data acquisition systems;
- Ability to act as a change agent and challenge the status quo;
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and ideas clearly to a variety of stakeholders;
- Visionary mindset with a strong understanding of industry business issues;
- Advanced proficiency in spoken and written English due to the high volume of international clients.
