Traffic Engineer
Our client, a company whose mission is to manage, operate, and maintain various transportation infrastructures, with activities spanning engineering, construction, and maintenance operations, is currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to continue improving the quality and efficiency of its services.
Nature of position
Reporting to the Director of Operations and Maintenance, you will be responsible for providing technical support in a matrix structure to the Projects team. This includes supporting discipline managers within the Engineering department in developing traffic management scenarios, as well as supporting discipline managers within the Construction department in managing and coordinating road closures and disruptions for major maintenance contracts to ensure optimal traffic flow across the company's network. In collaboration with the Senior Traffic Engineer, you will support engineers within the Diagnostics and Planning department in reviewing traffic management scenario assumptions and analyzing the potential traffic impacts of projects included in the ten-year strategic plan. You will also act as the company's representative on various metropolitan mobility technical committees. More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as an advisor in coordinating traffic maintenance during the preparation of contracts in the design phase and in planning major disruptions with partners;
- Participating in the preparation of special road closures;
- Advising the company to ensure that disruptions comply with contractual requirements;
- Collaborating in budget planning to ensure compatibility between work activities and traffic maintenance requirements;
- Managing all aspects and deliverables of assigned contracts according to quality standards and strategic orientations while respecting project management principles;
- Preparing terms of reference for awarding contracts to external consultants for professional traffic management support services;
- Effectively informing and communicating to the functional director and project directors on issues related to contract management;
- Preparing authorizations for additional work, monitoring progress reports for payments to external consultants, and ensuring schedule control and financial forecasting according to accounting calendars;
- Participating as the company's representative on the Mobility Montréal technical committee;
- Developing and maintaining the schedule of major disruptions;
- Coordinating major interventions on the company's network with various internal and external stakeholders;
- Identifying potential conflicts with partners and proposing mitigation measures;
- Collaborating with the Operations and Maintenance department to build a history of impacts according to location and type of disruption;
- Conducting site visits during major disruptions to document impacts on users;
- Developing and maintaining a repository of available mitigation measures;
- Participating in updating the company's contractual and reference documents (standard specifications, inspection guides, processes and procedures, etc.);
- Preparing reports including traffic count/circulation data analyses and actions taken to minimize disruptions (aiming for zero impact during peak hours and minimal disruptions over a 24-hour period);
- Developing tools to facilitate disruption coordination;
- Performing any other tasks compatible with the position.
Required qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering;
- Minimum of eight years of relevant experience, including four years in traffic management;
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
- Knowledge of applicable and recognized construction safety standards;
- Strong understanding of construction project execution issues and traffic coordination;
- Demonstrated ability in monitoring and administering assigned contracts, including work evaluation, meeting management, and payment negotiations;

- Good knowledge of the following software: MS Project, Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook;
- ASP Construction site safety certification card;
- Valid Class 5 driver's license;
- Excellent command of French, both spoken and written, and very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
