Automation Engineer

Our client, a company specializing in the modernization of dairy industry operations by closely integrating production equipment automation with a specialized warehouse management platform, is currently seeking an Automation Engineer to support, improve, and standardize its control systems.

Nature of position

Reporting to the CEO, your primary responsibility will be to design, program, and support industrial automation systems in dairy facilities and other related environments. You will also ensure that equipment, conveyors, and automated warehouse systems operate safely, reliably, and in full synchronization with the company's management systems. In this role, you will:

  • Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC systems using Rockwell / Allen-Bradley Logix platforms;
  • Develop and modify Ladder Logic programs;
  • Configure Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525 variable frequency drives;
  • Develop and configure FactoryTalk View ME/SE operator interfaces and HMI/SCADA systems;
  • Participate in the design of industrial networks and the integration of field instrumentation;
  • Design electrical control panels and update electrical schematics;
  • Coordinate panel fabrication with external suppliers, as required;
  • Perform commissioning and start-up of new equipment and production lines;
  • Conduct testing, adjustments, and troubleshooting activities directly at customer sites;
  • Diagnose and resolve various issues related to wiring, equipment, control components, as well as computers and software associated with HMI systems;
  • Collaborate with Operations and IT teams on the integration of automation systems with warehouse management systems and ERP systems;
  • Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, including I/O lists, electrical drawings, standards, and change logs;
  • Properly document automation system source code;
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's control, automation, and safety standards;
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the position.

Required qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Automated Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in automation;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible to obtain a professional engineering licence;
  • Hands-on experience with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley Logix PLCs and Ladder Logic programming;
  • Experience in electrical control panel design and interpretation of electrical schematics;
  • Experience with FactoryTalk View ME/SE HMI/SCADA systems;
  • Functional bilingualism in French and English, both spoken and written. Since some of the company's clients are located in Canada and the United States, you will be required to communicate frequently in English;
  • Ability to travel to various customer facilities in Canada and the United States;
  • Good understanding of industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, and safety practices, including safety circuits, interlocks, and lockout/tagout procedures;
  • Experience configuring Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525 variable frequency drives (an asset);
  • Field experience in commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of production and packaging equipment (an asset);
  • Experience integrating automation systems with WMS or MES systems, as well as knowledge of warehouse operations (an asset);
  • Experience in data acquisition and in producing reports or basic analyses from control systems, as well as knowledge of C++ and C# programming languages (an asset).
