Senior Planner (Marine Construction and Repair)
Our client, a world-class company providing integrated marine services—including shipyard operations, dredging, marine construction, and specialized marine equipment rental—throughout Canada is currently seeking a Senior Planner for its marine construction and repair division.
Nature of position
Reporting to the Chief Planner, you will act as the subject-matter expert in planning complex projects. You will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing integrated schedules for strategic projects while contributing to the continuous improvement of the organization's planning function. Beyond project management, you will provide technical leadership to the planning team and actively contribute to skills development, the implementation of corporate standards, the improvement of work methods, and the deployment of governance processes inspired by industry best practices, including DCMA, AACE, and PMI principles. You will also help increase the organization's schedule management maturity in order to improve project predictability, reliability, and performance. In this role, you will:
- Develop, maintain, and optimize integrated schedules for the organization's major projects;
- Establish execution logic, critical paths, and delivery scenarios;
- Ensure the integration of engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and delivery activities;
- Perform regular schedule updates and prepare performance analyses;
- Identify and quantify schedule-related risks and recommend mitigation strategies;
- Conduct forward-looking analyses and recovery scenarios to support decision-making;
- Collaborate with project directors, project managers, production teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective schedule control;
- Act as a mentor and subject-matter expert for the organization's planners;
- Support planners in developing, analyzing, and optimizing schedules;
- Review critical schedules to ensure compliance with established quality standards;
- Participate in the training, onboarding, and professional development of team members;
- Promote planning best practices and encourage knowledge sharing;
- Support project managers in interpreting and using planning tools;
- Perform any other duties consistent with the position.
Required qualification
- Education in a discipline related to the position, such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or naval architecture, or any other combination of relevant education and experience;
- A minimum of five years of experience in project planning and control;
- Excellent command of French and functional proficiency in English, both spoken and written;
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, multidisciplinary projects;
- Experience in an industrial, marine, manufacturing, infrastructure, or construction environment;
- Additional training in project management, planning, or project controls will be considered an asset.
