Employers are looking for much more than an impressive CV

Have you applied for a lot of jobs, and never landed an interview? If this is your case, you should reconsider your strategy to establish one that will set you apart from the competition.

We share with you the summary of an article, published in Financial Post written by Ms. Megan Santos, which raises some tips to maximize your chances of being noticed and called for an interview.

Despite the fact that you have an exceptional CV, you should read this article carefully!

Here is the summary :

More than once have you experienced the excitement and excitement of submitting your application for a job vacancy only to find out that it was filled in just a few weeks? You are not alone.

Hiring managers are getting better every day at recruiting employees. You just need to know how to get their attention, in order to put your candidacy forward to stand out from the crowd.

Don't say it, demonstrate it

Your CV is a document in which we find information relating to your professional background, your education, your qualifications and your interests. It suggests a list of projects you have completed, however, it does not demonstrate how you accomplished them.

If you've been taught to keep your resume at one page in length, it's unlikely that you can do your work justice with that very limited space. By submitting only a CV and cover letter, it's difficult to convince an employer that you are the right fit for the job.

Use tools to promote your know-how such as a portfolio, a personal website, a blog to complete your CV and give more content to your application.

The more of your work that an employer can see, other than in your resume, the better your chances of getting noticed and qualifying for a job interview.

Employers choose the candidates they know

Many employers these days consider references before posting the job description to the general public. Some companies have referral programs already in place to encourage employees to promote job offers to those around them.

As a job seeker, it is important to maintain good relations with your network of contacts. These influential people will keep you posted on internal employment opportunities and give you sound advice.

You do not have links to access the desired position? Feel free to reach out to employers directly through social media and attend events that will expand your circle of acquaintances.

Have a personality that fits with the company

Regardless of your resume template and content, it doesn't show your personality. Of course, you and several other candidates meet the requirements listed in the job description (technical knowledge, experience, etc.) but nothing sets you apart from the rest. Know that your skills, your character and your personality traits will be the deciding elements in choosing the right candidate.

When you covet a specific company, try connecting with the company's hiring managers through a LinkedIn invitation or meeting at a job fair.

This way, the first contact will be made and you will be one step closer to the desired job.

So while you have an impressive resume, there is a lot more to consider than this. Use all the material at your disposal to promote your application.
