The key to success for a successful job interview

The key to success for a successful job interview

It is rather difficult to develop your interview expertise, since it would mean passing several successively without getting a job. However, without becoming experts, many candidates would benefit from fine-tuning their strategy. Like any sporting event, you should have a good game plan and stick to it before, during and after the interview. Here is one in three steps:

The preparation

Preparation is decisive. The informed candidate will have already chosen their outfit the day before the interview. He must be dressed in a clean and consistent manner with the position concerned. In other words, do not land in a three-piece suit if you are applying for a position as a mechanic. Remember to bring extra copies of your CV in case you need to meet with more than one speaker. Planning your route on Google Maps is also essential so that you don't show up late for the interview and be instantly disqualified from the process.

You owe it to yourself to get your hands on as much information as possible about the position you want as well as the company you want to work for. If you are not familiar with it, take the time to take a look at all of its products and services. It is always a good idea to prepare a few questions that you can ask when the time comes.

The interview

The interview itself takes place in two parts: the moment you are asked questions and the - much shorter - time when you are given the opportunity to ask them. First of all, remember to turn off your phone before entering the room. Start the meeting with a good handshake and make eye contact with the person you are talking to. Control your resume to get straight to the point and always respond in a straightforward and concise manner. It is also important to show confidence in your abilities without falling into arrogance. Most importantly, avoid criticizing your former employers.

Questions that you have prepared - or those that came to mind during the process - can be asked at the end of the interview. It's about not being too thin. Get to the point by showing your interest in the job itself rather than inquiring about pay or working conditions. While important these questions can wait ... unless the recruiter brings it up on their own.

Knowing how to finish in style

Finally, when it comes time to bow out, go ahead with a last handshake while thanking the people (s) present for the opportunity you have been given to meet them and take the opportunity to reiterate your interest in the position. Leave the premises asking when you can expect to hear from you, then check to see if it is possible to contact them if you haven't received one after that time.

By following this game plan to the letter, you will have every chance to score points!
